Subject cataloguers have to pay immediate attention in improving the subject access.Item Air pollution by inland waterways transportation in India(IJSRST, 2023-06) Mehrotra, Parag.; Veera SethilKumar G.Economy of any country depends on the existence of an efficient transport sector. There exists different modes of transportation such as railways, roadways, inland waterways, coastal shipping and airways. Sea freight is the best choice for international freight shipping because ships are used for transporting 80% of the world’s goods by volume. But at the same time, it becomes a great threat to human and ecosystem in the form of carbon emissions. Now-a-days, inland waterways are preferred over roadways and railways for domestic shipping in all the countries. India invests more in the development of inland waterways to have a cost effective cargo shipping. As the number of inland vessels increases, it may lead to the severe impact on environment due to more carbon emissions. Unless steps to reduce carbon emissions from vessels are adopted, it could increase by as much as 20% to 120% by 2050. This study reviews the inland waterways transportation of India and investigates the air pollution from inland vessels. S.The purpose of this study is to examine the quality of catalogue records in the top five management institutes in India. The present study attempts to investigate the error rate found in the catalogue records of five management institutes by comparing with bibliographic records of Library of Congress (LoC). The study analysed the accuracy of 293 catalogue records. The errors in the data were listed and categorised as major and minor errors. The finding shows that while LoC records are absolutely error free, the quality of catalogue records of management institutes, on the other hand, was far from acceptable level. 1093 errors from 251 records were found amounting to 4.35 errors per record. These results show that there is a need for libraries in India to take up the bibliographic data entry more seriously than ever before.Item Analysis of band Selection algorithms for endmember extraction in hyperspectral Images(IOSR-JECE, 2016-12) Rashini, M; Veera SenthilKumar, G.This paper presents a novel approach of band selection for dimensionality reduction in Hyperspectral images (HSI). There are several methods of dimensionality reduction which can be further categorized into two groups; feature extraction and feature or band selection. Due to transformation in feature extraction, the critical information may have been distorted. Hence feature selection is preferable for dimensionality reduction because it preserves the relevant original information. Despite many algorithms exist for dimensionality reduction; it is even now a challenging task of selecting informative bands from the large volume data. The number of bands is estimated with the concept of Virtual Dimensionality (VD), because it provides reliable estimate. Bands are selected from hyperspectral images using Exemplar Based Band Selection (EBBS). End members are extracted from the selected bands using Simplex Growing Algorithm(SGA). The performance of EBBS is compared with the existing band selection techniques such as Constrained Band Selection (CBS) and Similarity Based Band Selection (SBBS) using the spectral angle distance as a measure. Recently, the transmission of information in these online communities has gained much attention, partly because of the enormous popularity of online social networking sites and their potential marketing impact. The social media tools available on the internet assist the encouragement of science dramatically, and the change is happening in real time models. Expansion of World Wide Web and newer technologies has improved the ways in which science is communicated and its assessment techniques. The use of conventional metric tools judges the impact of scholarly publications using citation and download counts. They are broadly used to evaluate articles, authors, and disciplines on publishers' platforms. These tools analyze the citation data in normal course of time and make them available. A barrier to spreading of research is that it depends on the end-user searching for or ‘pulling’ relevant knowledge from the literature base. Social media instead ‘pushes’ relevant knowledge directly to the end-user, via blogs and sites such as Facebook and Twitter. It is recognized as an extension of today’s Internet to the real world of physical objects, which is often associated with such terms as “ambient intelligent,” “ubiquitous network,” and “cyberphysical system.” Its development depends on dynamic technical innovation in a number of important fields, ranging from fundamental microelectronic devices, sensor technologies to information and communication technologies (ICT). The Internet of Things has been called by many names. The idea is that objects can be connected through the internet in new ways. This happens when a combination of web-enabled devices (computers, phones, handhelds) and technology that can communicate with those devices (sensors, RFID, 2D and 3D barcodes) allows information to be attached to an object. The information can stand on its own and be read by a device or it can trigger an action such as bringing up a web page, playing a video, reminding pick up book, or giving a message to customer. This paper analyzes the key technology and working principle of IoT, its development in India and abroad, its application in the library development and management. It also discusses how Cloud Computing solutions could be beneficial to libraries in three basic areas: technology, data and community.Item Clustering based band selection for endmember extraction using simplex growing algorithm in hyperspectral images(Springer, 2017-03) Veera SenthilKumar, G.; Vasuki, S.With the advancement in technology, hyperspectral images have potential applications in the field of remote sensing due to their high spectral resolution. Despite the hyperspectral image providing abundant information, its analysis suffers from the problem of high dimensionality. Hence, Dimensionality Reduction (DR) is an essential task in all hyperspectral image analysis. Band Selection, which is one of the DR techniques, is still a challenging issue even though many algorithms have been developed. To provide remedy for this issue, this paper explores a novel approach for band selection using K-means clustering on statistical feature in hyperspectral images. The proposed method of clustering based band selection for DR is simple and accurate. A reliable estimate of number of bands to be selected is provided by Virtual Dimensionality (VD). Informative bands preserving maximum information are selected based on the statistical feature, the variance using K-means Clustering technique. Further, our proposed work involves the utilization of the effectiveness of Simplex Growing Algorithm (SGA) on endmember extraction in association with clustering based band selection. Using Fully Constrained Least Squares (FCLS) method, abundance fraction is estimated based on endmember signatures, which are derived using Endmember Extraction Algorithm (EEA). The proposed work is investigated and compared with that of N-FINDR and Vertex Component Analysis (VCA) algorithms. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Spectral Angle Distance (SAD) and computation time. Experimental results show that the proposed clustering based band selection with SGA endmember extraction algorithm reduces the average SAD by 8 to 10 % and the average RMSE by nearly 1 %, compared to that of N-FINDR and VCA algorithms. Strontium 90 continuous beta source is used for measurement of counts. Values are measured for aluminum absorber and then for soil samples. Digital preservation is a vital part of the creation and management of any digital collection. Without the appropriate preservation a digital collection can easily become inaccessible and therefore useless in just a matter of a few years. A modern research library’s collection comprises of among other things, printed materials, online electronic resources, and locally developed digital library collections. Preservation of printed materials is not a big challenge for modern librarians but preserving and providing long-term access to digital collections is a thwarting process for librarians. Also, library users cannot take for granted the continued access to the online journals to which their libraries have subscriptions. This is because, libraries, for various reasons, can discontinue subscription to certain journal titles. Also, the publisher may discontinue any of the journals that they have been publishing. When such a situation arises, the library users will no longer be able to access the journals to which the library used to have subscription. To address such a situation, researchers at the Stanford University have developed a software tool called the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe). This tool can help in facilitating preservation of bits and also provide continued access to such online resources. This paper provides a brief overview of the main issues in digital preservation, highlighting current research and standard efforts. It also looks into the aspects involved in the digital preservation and discusses some of the techniques required for digital preservation. Also this paper is an attempt to understand how mobile technology is useful in improving and providing better library services.Item Exploring dimensions of metadata quality assessment: a scoping review /(SAGE Publications, 2024-03-24) ChandrappaAssessing metadata is of paramount importance for several critical reasons. Metadata plays a pivotal role in various aspects, including data retrieval and search, data organization, interoperability, data preservation, and the overall user experience. The purpose of this scoping review is to identify the most commonly measured dimensions of metadata quality in existing studies on metadata quality assessment. The study also investigates the types of data sources and countries contributing most to the literature on metadata quality assessment and the types of documents used to communicate their findings. The methodology involves the application of PRISMA model for qualitatively evaluating 55 studies on metadata quality assessment. The co-occurrence analysis is made on the title and abstract of selected articles using VOSviewer 1.6.18 version, visualization software. The review found that completeness, accuracy, consistency, accessibility, conformance, provenance, and timeliness are commonly used dimensions in metadata quality assessment. However, there is no consensus on their exact definition and measurement, indicating a need for further investigation into less commonly assessed quality dimensions. Digital repositories and open government data are the most commonly studied data sources, with the United States being the leading contributor and journal articles being the most commonly used document type. The cluster analysis based on co-occurrence of terms in title and abstract found three research areas, “Metadata Quality Assessment,” “Metadata Quality Dimensions,” and “Metadata Quality Applications, Frameworks, and Approaches” as prominent areas of research. The originality of the study lies in its methodology that involves rigorous screening of articles on metadata quality. It is a first attempt to qualitatively synthesize literature on metadata quality. The article emphasizes the importance of metadata quality research and the need to improve the flexibility of metadata quality assessment tools to facilitate better metadata quality assurance measures.Item Hybrid noise removal in color images using wavelet shrinkage approaches of PURE-LET and Neighshrink SURE(2013-04) Karthikeyan, P.; Vasuki, S; Veera SenthilKumar, G.Image denoising is an indispensable task where the complication of noise is prevalent and the contrast of low cost surveillance camera is more over low due to various image acquisitions. For the past two decades, denoising is performed by the Wavelet transform. The proposed work presents a novel approach of denoising by Poisson Unbiased Risk Estimate- Linear Expansion of Threshold (PURE-LET) and Neighshrink-Stein’s Unbiased Risk Estimate (SURE) for mixed Poisson and Gaussian noise. Finally the potential of the proposed approach through extensive comparisons with state-of-the-art techniques that are specifically tailored to the estimation of Poisson intensities are demonstrated. S.; ChandrappaItem Indian covid-19 preprints submissions in biorxiv and medrxiv preprint servers /(medRxiv, 2023-02-16) ChandrappaThis research aimed at determining the growth of deposition of preprints on servers by Indian researchers during COVID-19 pandemic. In the pre-pandemic period, the dominant server was arXiv upon which research from physics and other related domains have been the most predominant depositors. When the pandemic erupted and the need to share research findings became imperative, many previously dormant preprint servers received vibrant activations from several scientists across the globe. This is with the intention of bridging the gap between delays inherent in reviewing process and the dire need to share information for finding everlasting solutions to the raging pandemic. Many researchers, institutions, countries, etc. have contributed in this regard. The study used quantitative method and iSearch Portfolio expert-curated source for publications and preprints related to either COVID-19 or the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 developed and maintained by National Institute of Health (NIH), US iSearch COVID-19 Portfolio. The study examined the Indian COVID-19 preprints deposited in bioRxiv and medRxiv preprint servers. The findings indicated that, Indian researchers have posted their papers in large numbers in bioRxiv and medRxiv servers with the medRxiv having the highest preprints (417, 40.44%) in 2020 against its counterpart bioRxiv (118, 10.96%) in the same year. Similarly, infectious diseases (except HIV/AIDS) (311) had the highest recurrence of the preprints submitted for deposition in servers. This is followed by epidemiology (263), public and global health (122), bioinformatics (59), among others. There is high collaboration among researchers who deposited their preprints in these servers where about 257 (24.93%) preprints were co-authored by 11+ authors followed by 3-authored and 4-authored with 124 preprints respectively (together accounts for 24.06%) and 2-authroed (114 (11.04%) preprints) respectively in a diminishing manner. The study concluded that, Indian researchers are actively participating in depositing preprints in servers notably bioRxiv and medRxiv.
