There exists different modes of transportation such as railways, roadways, inland waterways, coastal shipping and airways. Sea freight is the best choice for international freight shipping because ships are used for transporting 80% of the world’s goods by volume. But at the same time, it becomes a great threat to human and ecosystem in the form of carbon emissions. Now-a-days, inland waterways are preferred over roadways and railways for domestic shipping in all the countries. India invests more in the development of inland waterways to have a cost effective cargo shipping. As the number of inland vessels increases, it may lead to the severe impact on environment due to more carbon emissions. Unless steps to reduce carbon emissions from vessels are adopted, it could increase by as much as 20% to 120% by 2050. This study reviews the inland waterways transportation of India and investigates the air pollution from inland vessels.Item Cargo work: cargo work for nautical officers(Notion Press, 2023-06-02) Dixit, Vartul. The book on Cargo Work is an excellent resource for Nautical Officers pursuing a B.Sc. in NS or DNS. Ramalingeswara; Amritha, C.S.Big Data is more than just large amounts of data. Big Data allows companies to use enormous amounts of data from non-traditional sources. A non-traditional source is time-sensitive data, not just past recorded data, used to optimize the industry and ports. Big Data includes texts, audios, videos, and real-time information. Big data is a big category which includes the data in both structured and unstructured forms stored in the cloud. For e-commerce, the supply chain data source might be order management systems, warehouses, payroll, inventory systems and carrier data. For the Maritime analytics market traditional data may come from dockyards, ships, vessel operations, bill of lading, traditional (fixed) data is used to analyze profits and losses. Nontraditional is time sensitive and not always quantifiable. Examples of nontraditional data are weather data, traffic and location data and movement of freight via transportation.Item Exciton and Bi-exciton binding energy calculation in a core shell quantum dot /(IOP Publishing, 2021-02-01) Rana, ShivaniWe report the effect of shell thickness on exciton and biexciton binding energy calculation for a CdSe/ZnSe core shell quantum dot. Wentzel Kramers Brillouin approximation help us to create proper wave function for the system. It incorporates core shell boundary effect correctly. For excitons, the binding energy is affected by the Columbic confinement potentials and during biexciton binding energy calculation, the exchange and correlation effects were taken into account. It is observed that the excitonic binding energy shows an initial increase with increasing shell thickness but saturates for thick shell while it always gives a negative value for bi-excitonic binding energy. This confirms the existence of antibonding states for biexcitons.Item Impact of new technologies in education /(Journal of Pharmaceutical Negative Results, 2022-11-17) Velayutham, GanesanTechnology has played a vital role almost in every aspect of our day-to-day life, and education is not an exception in this regard. Today, technology enables the forms of communication and collaboration is unimaginable among students. They can share whatever they are learning in the classrooms even with other state students who are tracking the same expedition. Students can have group discussions using the technology-based tools like Zoom meet, Google Meet, etc., they can also collaborate on group projects by sharing learning materials by using these technological tools such as wikis, Google docs, cloud-based apps.Item Impact of transition metal ion doping on electron spin relaxation time in CdSe/ZnSe quantum dots /(Elsevier, 2020-01-01) Rana, ShivaniTheoretical calculations of spin relaxation time (SRT) of conduction electrons have been carried out considering the relaxation mediated by acoustic phonons using k.p perturbation theory and envelope function approximation in a transition metal doped II-VI semiconductor quantum dot under the strong confinement regime. In this calculation, we are considering the transitions in the Zeeman sublevels arising due to magnetic impurity doping and applied magnetic field in a Mn doped CdSe/ZnSe quantum dots. The occurrence of spin polarization switching at moderately low applied magnetic field is established in Cd1−xMnxSe/ZnSe quantum dots. The spin relaxation times have been found to be considerably longer with a higher dopant concentration in small magnetic fields (B < 2T) and at very low temperature (T < 50 K) regime. The results may help to demonstrate that, such small quantum dots can successfully be used as polarization switch in different spintronic nano-device.Item Maritime awareness /(CRI, 2025-05-28) Dixit, VartulItem Occupational hazards in modern bulk carrier vessel and how to mitigate the hazards(International journal of recent advances in multidisciplinary topics, 2021-07) Dixit, Vartul.Occupational hazards are integral hazards which remains present on the vessel with typical work requirements on vessel. Author’s approach is to disclose how these hazards are linked with specific nature of work and the methodology to assess these risks in advance for taking of accident preventive measures. Past case studies clearly shows that many accidents, fatal injuries, major or minor injuries happens mostly due to human error and secondly by the machinery or equipment failures. Seafarers are exposed to high diversity of occupational hazards (Marcus Oldenburg, 2010, journal of occupation health: occupational challenges and risk in seafaring profession).Item Research for improvement of safety in survival at sea(Journal of Research in Humanities and Social Science, 2023) Dixit, Vartul.Survival at sea in case of unfortunate abandonment of the ship is a real challenge for all seafarers. International Maritime Organization has convened and given a convention called “Safety of Life at Sea”. As per this convention after abandonment from ship and during survival in life boat seafarer has to depend on 3 litre of water per person per day, which is really impractical for surviving many days at sea. It also says collect rain, drizzle water but the question is what is surety of rain, drizzle will precipitate during survival days, hence author and researcher has done great research to find out sustainable method of survival at sea. Formation of drinking water and use of SOLAR power in addition to existing mode of power supply will be ensuring the enhance safety at sea.null.listelement.badge Research for navigation safety and function of electronic devices on ship(International journal of recent advances in multidisciplinary topics, 2023) Dixit, Vartul. The Marine Radar and use of electronic chart gives precise calculation of range and bearing of targets which is required for accurate navigation. Integration of radar wave detection and ranging system on the navigational station is a mandatory requirement for safe navigation. Human eye alone can guess the distance but cannot quantitatively state the range of object therefore, intervention of RADAR technology makes a ship master accurate object detector. In navigation we can fix vessel’s position by many methods like by cross bearings taken from two different objects, beam bearing to four-point bearing method, Horizontal sextant method, Vertical sextant method, cross bearing from three objects, by celestial fix, by bearing of object and sounding contour change, GPS fixing and by marine Radar. A ship’s master can monitor vessel’s real time position continuously on the ECDIS monitor. All together both equipment have improved master’s ability to better monitoring of navigation.Item Research for prevention of corrosion, erosion and fouling on the ship(International journal of innovative research in technology, 2023-05) Dixit, Vartul.Ship builders mainly uses ferrous metal Mild steel plate for the ship construction. However, the safety and concealment defense of the gathered information is a key uncertain problem. A Hybrid Key Management (HKM) scheme [13] is worked based on Public Key Cryptography (PKC)-authentication scheme. This scheme uses a one-way hash function to construct a Merkle Tree. The PKC method increase the computational complexity and lacking scalability. Additionally, it increases expensive computation, communication costs and delay. To overcome this problem, Robust Security for Protected Health Information by ECC with signature Hash Function in WBAN (RSP) is proposed. The system employs hash-chain based key signature technique to achieve efficient, secure transmission from sensor to user in WBAN. Moreover, Elliptical Curve Cryptography algorithm is used to verifies the authenticate sensor. In addition, it describes the experimental results of the proposed system demonstrate the efficient data communication in a network.Item Role of E-journals and E-books for higher education(Dayananda Sagar Institutions, 2013-09-26) Devendrappa, T.M.; Gopala, KThis paper deals with importance of e-journals and e-books for higher education professional development.
