    Alert services benefits growing rapidly in the research arena across the various faculties, numerous types of alert services gaining momentum in the field of library science. This study proposes to understand different kinds of alert services available like citation alert, web alert, search alerts, publication alerts etc. this study also makes modest attempt in providing brief awareness to researchers and other stakeholders. Finally this work analyses pros and cons of these alert services in the last leg of this paper.

In this article we can see what is knowledge management its definitions, why should we apply knowledge management (KM) in University, Types of knowledge management (KM) systems, need of KM in academic environment that to in higher education institutions like Universities, Research and Development institutions. How best libraries can perform in gathering, managing, preserving of academic knowledge in university using knowledge management principles. How Central Library, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) can helps in managing of university knowledge using Knowledge Management (KM) principles, steps taken for implementing the KM system in university.
