Abstract
This study provides a comparative analysis of the environmental practices and sustainability goals of two major Indian ports New Mangalore Port (NMP) and V.O. Chidambaranar Port (VOCPT or Tuticorin Port) within the framework of national and global environmental standards. As maritime trade continues to expand, port authorities are increasingly pressured to balance economic performance with ecological stewardship. The project evaluates critical environmental dimensions including air and water quality management, renewable energy adoption, biodiversity conservation, waste reduction, and community engagement. Drawing upon government reports, ISO 14001 standards, and the Maritime India Vision 2030, the study benchmarks Indian port initiatives against global leaders such as the Port of Rotterdam.
