Abstract

The maritime transportation of dangerous goods (DG) is a critical component of global trade, enabling the movement of hazardous materials essential to various industries, including energy, healthcare, and manufacturing. However, the inherently risky nature of DG—ranging from flammable liquids to toxic chemicals and radioactive substances—demands stringent regulatory oversight and robust safety management systems. This study explores the complexities of transporting dangerous goods by sea, with particular emphasis on international regulations such as the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention, and national frameworks including India's Merchant Shipping Act.
